About the Department

Mathematics Education Program is a bachelor program that was integrated into the Department of Mathematics and Science Education. The program includes compulsory subjects related to maths, general culture and pedagogical knowledge on teaching maths. The language of instruction in all undergraduate and graduate programs of Mathematics Teacher Education is Turkish. In addition, students can take elective courses.

The graduates of the program can work as mathematics teachers in public and private primary education institutions, or in other areas such as preparing children's programs for the visual and printed media and designing computer programs for children. In addition, private education institutions also create an additional working space for vocational teachers.

Elementary Mathematics Education Program was established in 2006. The aim of the program is train mathematics teachers who will serve the second grade (from 5th to 8th. Grade) of the elementary school. The program began accepting students from the 2006-2007 school year. Mathematics Education Program has been accredited by EPDAD since 2020. There are ERASMUS agreements with Spain, Poland and Romania, and MEVLANA foreign exchange agreements with Morocco, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. The department also has agreements with various universities in Turkey as part of the FARABI program. While the quota of receiving students was 54 in the 2006-2007 academic year, this number has reached to 350 students in the academic year 2021-2022. Elementary Mathematics Education Program is serving with 1 Professor, 2 Associate Professor, 3 Assistant Professor and 2 research asistant.

Master’s  Program is given since the 2011-2012 academic year.
